In a world driven by social discovery & search, end users can’t be expected to pick and choose between URLs. They’ll just click whatever’s presented to them by Twitter, Google or Facebook. If the website is context-aware enough to redirect them to a mobile experience on a mobile URL, that’s pretty good. But if you’ve implemented the redirect, why not have the right logic & styles to serve mobile functionality on that very first link?

This is a good subject to talk about. Usually when I find stuff like this I stumble it. I don t think this would be the best to submit though. I will be sure to submit something else though.

I'm new to the mobile Web environment, but am fast coming to the conclusion that James Pearce is correct when comparing the different expectations for desktop and mobile users.

For now I'm going to concentrate on two things; for existing clients who want a mobile.domain.com version of their desktop site I'll build a cutdown, fast-loading, minimum data content and concentrate on the contact and location info.

For new clients, I'll build fluid sites with minimum graphics, no Flash and minimum JS, to adapt to hopefully all devices.

In my view, mobile devices will, within a very short time, in terms of power get closer to desktops and laptops and data download costs will fall, enabling Web developers to just be aware of the fluid nature of the site, instead of the file and data load.

Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about this and love learning more on this topic. If at all possible, while you gain expertise, can you mind updating your site with increased information? It is very ideal for me.
